What is a Skater Dress?

A skater dress is a fit-and-flare style, a fitted bodice and waist seam that flares out into a fuller skirt, similar to the shape a figure skater's dress moves in. Snag's Archean Skater Dress follows that shape with princess seams through the bust, a defined waist and a skirt cut to swish rather than cling. It sits on or just above the knee.

Does a skater dress work for different body shapes?

The waist seam and flared skirt do most of the work, since the fit is defined at the waist before the skirt has room to move, rather than relying on one straight cut all the way down. Snag's Archean Skater Dress comes in sizes 4 to 38, with every size cut to its own pattern rather than one design scaled up or down. That means the waist seam sits in the right place whatever size you're wearing.

Will a skater dress fly up or ride up when you move?

A well-made skater skirt has enough weight in the fabric to swish and twirl without flying up in a gust of wind. Snag's Archean Skater Dress is cut from a textured viscose ponte jersey with real substance to it, so the skirt keeps its shape through walking, sitting or dancing. It's fully opaque too, so there's nothing to worry about underneath.
